Camp Goonzhii in Arctic Village
Director | Videographer | Editor — In August 2022, the Fish and Wildlife Service journeyed to Arctic Village, Alaska, to collaborate with the Gwich'in Athabascan community on a culture and science camp named Camp Goonzhii. Meaning “wisdom and knowledge” in the Gwich’in language, the camp brings in researchers working within the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to share their research, paired with talks by Alaska Native elders of the community who share the importance of their culture to students from grades K-12. One community member, Trimble Gilbert is one of the few remaining speakers of a language that is considered "severely endangered."
