Creative Approach

Artist | Videographer | Editor —A self-directed, self-funded, and self-powered two-week creative residency at Denali Base Camp in Alaska featuring the works of Rachel Heckerman (film), Rose McAdoo (dessert), and Klara Maisch (painting). Each artist has a unique creative goal at base camp and hopes to be challenged by the extreme surroundings of camp. United by a passion for science communication and working on location, they collectively document the creative challenge of making art in response to the environment. Full film to come out in Spring 2025.

Rachel Heckerman's work at Denali focused on filming in extreme environments while leveling up her skills in the outdoors. She is creating a short film about the entire Creative Approach experience, expected to be released in Spring 2025. Photo by Rose McAdoo

Klara Maisch's focus was on painting an 8-foot mural of the North Buttress of Begguya, part of the Alaska Range while facing the challenge of painting in unfavorable weather conditions for the majority of the trip. Photo by Rose McAdoo

Rose McAdoo baked eight desserts inspired by glacier science and created a four-tier cake, which she shared with climbers at Base Camp when they were weathered in for a few days.
